Rodeo Queens become the ambassadors for the sport of Rodeo. Knowledge of the sport is essential. The Pageant includes a sequestered interview with three judges during which knowledge is tested for equine, and rodeo facts, as well as current events. Rodeo Queens must be able to speak in public and demonstrate poise and articulation. The contestants must give a speech and answer impromptu questions on stage to demonstrate their public speaking ability.
This year we are excited to announce an additional division to our Rodeo Queens Pageant Competition, Poway Rodeo Young Miss for cowgirls ages 10 – 12. Junior Queen Candidates are for ages 13 – 16 and Queen Candidates are for ages 17 – 23. Weekly meetings were required to help prepare the girls for the pageant. For more information contact Nancy Kirchhofer at: Queens@PowayRodeo.com
Performance dates for the Poway Rodeo are September 24th and 25th. Please check our website for ticket and performance information: www.powayrodeo.com.)
Hannah Jones, 2009 Poway Rodeo Queen
![]() |
Hannah JonesMy name is Hannah Jones, and I am a senior attending Mountain Valley Academy in Ramona. Horses have always been a big part of my life. I participated in the National Pony Club Association for ten years, reaching a C2 level. The past three years, I have been riding Western, learning to team pen, and sort cattle. Last year I was the Ramona Rodeo Jr. Queen and loved, being a part of the rodeos and the Western lifestyle. Outside of working with my horses, I am very involved with my 4-H program. I am the Ramona Jr. Fair
4-H representative, The Paisanos 4-H President, and an active member in the fair board and steering committee. Aside from my busy lifestyle, I enjoy spending quality time with my friends and family, participating in church activities, mentoring new young riders, and making time to listen to the saddle squeak on a nice long trail ride. After I graduate high school I will be attending college studying in the fields
of animal science and nursing. While attending college I will be working at the Helen Woodward Therapeutic Riding Center, working with disabled children. |

Laura Anderson, 2009 Poway Rodeo Jr. Queen
Laura AndersonLaura Anderson is sixteen years old and a junior at Mountain Valley Academy. She has been involved in horses her whole life, and enjoys riding her appaloosa horse, Shorty. In addition to competing with him in open shows, she also performs with him on an equestrian drill team called the Rhythm Riders. Laura volunteers with organizations such as Camp Hope, Leg-Up Ranch, and Relay for Life. She also volunteers at Rady Children’s Hospital, and plans to attend San Diego State University to pursue a career in nursing. A love of rodeo and the beautiful city of Poway have inspired her to represent the Poway Rodeo as their Jr. Queen. A big thanks to my sponsors: REINS Therapeutic Riding Program, Poway
Transmissions, Diamond D Feed and Supply, Matt Parker Hay Company, and
Mary's Tack and Feed. Thank you to my family for all your loving
support, and to my trainer and friend Scherry Richter for all her hard
work and support. |
